The Eighth Day Letter: Releasing Fear in Turbulent Times

Issue 1 — May 11, 2026

From the Ethiopian Canon to the Wounded Heart

Out of the thousands of newsletters flooding inboxes every day, each offering yet another opinion on the news, another hot take, another cycle of the same fear and fatigue… another voice is simply not needed. That is exactly why I am changing the direction of this letter. Instead of adding to the noise, The Eighth Day Letter is here to start your week with something different: genuine hope, rooted in the ancient wisdom of the Ethiopian Bible and gentle inner healing for the heart.

Each week, we will journey through three distinct layers together: first, a “News Hook” where we look at current events through a lens of peace rather than panic; second, a dive into “Ancient Wisdom” from the unique books of the Ethiopian Canon; and finally, an “Inner Healing Practice” to help you move these truths from your head into your heart and body.

Good morning, friends.

The headlines this week—the sharpening tensions in the Middle East, the shifting dynamics of the Iran conflict, and the constant hum of uncertainty—are heavy. It is easy to feel as though we are trapped in a “seventh-day” loop: a cycle of perpetual struggle in which labor never ends, and peace feels like a distant memory.

In the ancient tradition of the Ethiopian Bible, the “seventh day” is the world of the old creation—beautiful but marked by struggle. The Eighth Day is the dawn of the new creation. It is the day of the Resurrection, the moment when the loop is broken, and God’s rest begins to break into our history.

Ancient Wisdom

In the Book of Enoch (preserved so faithfully in the Ethiopian canon), we are reminded that God is not absent in times of conflict. Enoch’s visions often reveal a higher order behind the chaos—a promise that the seasons of violence will pass, and a new age of light will be established. We are invited, even now, to live from that future reality. We aren’t waiting for the war to end to find peace; we are invited to pull the peace of the Eighth Day into the exhaustion of our current hour.

Enoch’s Vision

In the Book of Enoch, preserved as sacred scripture in the Ethiopian canon, the prophet is caught up in a series of heavenly visions where he beholds the throne of God, the judgment of the fallen angels known as the Watchers, and the hidden order behind the chaos of the world. He sees that even in seasons of conflict and upheaval—like the tensions we witness today—God has already set in motion a higher plan of justice, restoration, and light. Enoch is shown that the righteous are not abandoned; instead, they are invited to live from the reality of the coming Eighth Day, pulling the peace of the new creation into the exhaustion of the present age. This vision reminds us that the turmoil of our time is temporary, and the dawn of God’s rest is already breaking through for those who have eyes to see it.

Inner Healing Practice: Releasing Fear

When we watch the news, fear often settles in the body—a tightness in the chest, a restless mind. Let’s bring that to the Eighth Day.

- The Reflection: Identify the specific fear the headlines are triggering for you today. Is it fear of the future? Fear for your family? Fear that the world is spinning out of control? Name it quietly.

- The Prayer: “Father of the New Creation, I bring my fear to You. I release my need to carry the weight of these headlines. By the power of the Eighth Day, break this loop of anxiety. Replace my fear with Your stillness and remind me that I am held in Your hands, even when the world is shaking.”

Closing Hope

The turbulence of this age does not define you. You are being prepared for the rest that remains. Let this week be an exercise in looking beyond the seventh day, toward the light that is already rising.

What is one way you are choosing to find stillness this week? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

With hope,

Chris Marchment
